Uniting Arts through Hearts

Welcome to Samyo!

We are the UK’s South Asian Music Youth Orchestra and are the only orchestra of its kind in the world!

Samyo brings young and passionate Hindustani and Carnatic musicians together from across England to play together as an orchestra – an extraordinary feat in the world of Indian classical music!

The orchestra plays music which has been specially written for them by some of India’s top musicians and composers such as Lalgudi GJR Krishnan, Pandit Ranajit Sengupta, Anil Srinivasan, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, Rajeeb Chakraborty, Gaurav Mazumdar, Girishh Gopalakrishnan and many many more. Through a combination of rehearsals, workshops and retreats we provide an unparalleled platform and opportunities for young musicians to develop and showcase their skills and reach their musical goals.

What sets us apart is our ability to fuse diverse styles of Indian and world music and present them in an exciting and dynamic way. With our musicians born and brought up in the UK, we bring a fresh perspective to Indian music that has never been seen or heard before!

At Samyo, we believe in a 360 approach to musical development which includes:

  • consistent foundational training with your own teacher
  • booster workshop sessions with masters of Indian classical music,
  • learning from peers within the orchestra
  • frequent opportunities to watch and learn from masters
  • incredible opportunities to perform.

All of this comes together to create a powerful new sound for yourself and in turn a while new creative direction for Indian music globally. With the right support and encouragement, we aim to create a major movement for the awareness and education of Indian music throughout the West, and open a new contemporary chapter in the spread of Indian music.
