#Milap present ‘samvada – a conversation through dance and music’ by Shweta Prachande and Rithvik Raja.
Shweta Prachande started learning Bharatanatyam at the young age of 5 and has been training under Guru Smt. Priyadarsini Govind in Chennai for over 15 years. Finding courage to pursue a full-time career in the art form upon encouragement from her guru, she has committed to building a holistic understanding of the arts. She was blessed with the opportunity to watch, learn, and assimilate through Abhinaya classes under Guru Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, and has also trained in nattuvangam, music and Tamil texts related to dance, and the martial art form of Kalaripayattu. Moreover, her unabated passion for dance compelled her to complete a Diploma in Dance Studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London as well as a Masters in Fine Arts in Bharatanatyam from Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirapalli. Shweta is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Balashree honour by H.E. President of India late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2004 and the ‘Sri. T.S. Parthsarathy Award’ by The Music cademy Madras in 2008 to name a few. She is an ICCR empanelled artist and an A graded artiste by the Mumbai Doordarshan. In Chennai, Shweta is a regular performer as part of the Music and Dance season every year, including presenting performances as part of multiple editions of the prestigious Madras Music Academy Dance Festival. Additionally, she has performed extensively at various venues across the country and regularly conducts workshops and lecture demonstrations for Spicmacay amongst other leading art organizations in the country. Internationally, she has toured and performed end conducted workshops extensively across the world, With a deep commitment to continue exploring the versatility and sharing the joys of Bharatanatyam even in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Shweta has tenaciously engaged in several avenues to do so. Taking impetus from her initial collaboration with Carnatic musician Rithvik Raja at the Society Dharani in Kochi in 2017, the duo paired up once again for this special commission.
Rithvik Raja: Defined by artistic intensity and musical sensitivity, Rithvik Raja is distinct in approach among a new generation of musicians. Rooted in the South Indian Classical Carnatic Music tradition, he is one of the most celebrated and respected artistes of his era. His reverence for traditional values coupled with an imaginative approach makes his music a lovely blend of aesthetics and emotion. Blessed with a pleasant voice that effectively communicates the myriad nuances of his music, his renditions are punctuated with abundant creativity. With constant introspection and hard work, his music is constantly evolving while preserving the integrity of classicism. With more than a decade of professional expertise, he has enthralled diverse listeners from across the globe. He has given many lectures and talks, conducted a number of workshops and has added value to many panel discussions. He has extensively participated and won many prestigious competitions and holds a number of important milestone awards and recognitions to his credit. He has also been fortunate to share the stage with many senior and top ranking artistes like T.K. Murthy, M.S. Anantharaman, Umayalpuram Dr. K. Sivaraman, Trichy Sankaran, Guruvayur Dorai, V. Kamalakar Rao, Madras Kannan and many other illustrious and acclaimed artistes.
